Sri Lanka is set to host the Raid Amazones women-only adventure challenge in Kalutara from November 2 to 10, with more than 250 international athletes expected to participate, organisers said.

The event will also bring a large contingent of organisers, media personnel and support staff to the island, providing a further boost to Sri Lanka’s efforts to position itself as a global destination for experiential and adventure tourism.

Raid Amazones, founded in 2001 by French media personality and adventure specialist Alexandre Debanne, combines endurance sports with cultural exploration and community engagement.

Sri Lanka has previously hosted the event seven times—in 2004, 2009, 2018, 2019, twice in 2022 and in 2023.

Tourism industry stakeholders said the events had helped showcase Sri Lanka’s landscapes, cultural heritage and hospitality to international audiences over the past two decades.

The 2019 edition was particularly significant as it was among the first major international sports and adventure events held in Sri Lanka following the end of the conflict. Held in Passikuda, Kalkudah and Thoppigala, the event helped project the country as a safe and attractive destination for international visitors.

The 2026 edition will feature the diverse landscapes of Kalutara, including beaches, rivers, wetlands, forests, rubber plantations and surrounding communities.

Organisers said participants would also experience Sri Lankan cuisine, traditions and hospitality while taking part in activities designed to test endurance, teamwork and determination.

Previous editions of Raid Amazones have generated more than 300 international media features across television, print and digital platforms, according to the organisers.

Raid Amazones Sri Lanka 2026 is being organised in partnership with SriLankan Airlines and Connaissance De Ceylan, with the support of the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau. Turyaa Kalutara is the official accommodation partner.
