The Buddhist Convention of the Bodu Bala Sena
The Bodu Bala Sena held its Sivu Hele Maha Samuluwa, (Buddhist Convention) at the Bogambara Grounds in Kandy on July 7, this year.
Speaking at the event, its General Secretary, Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thero called on Buddhist monks to rally together and bring about a Sinhala government to rule the country. Decrying governments that are made up with the support of minority political parties, the Thero said that if 7,000 of the 10,000 temples that side with the BBS work together, a Sinhala parliament could be installed. He called on all the Buddhist monks to unite and work together towards this end. The country is faced with incompetent politicians and extremism he said.
The crowd that gathered for the convention was around seven to eight thousand people, including Buddhist monks. The Thero who was recently released from prison following a presidential pardon had promised to bring 10,000 Buddhist monks to the convention.
