Rumesh Tharanga wins Ultimate Championship javelin title in Budapest

Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Tharanga won the men’s javelin title at the inaugural Ultimate Championship in Budapest, on Sunday, defeating leading rivals Anderson Peters and Julian Weber.
The 23-year-old moved into the lead with a third-round throw of 87.11 metres before improving to 91.01m, marking the third time he has surpassed 90 metres this season.
Two-time world champion Peters finished second with 86.18m, while European champion Weber, who led after the opening round, placed third with 85.89m.
The victory adds another major title to Tharanga’s breakthrough season. He earlier won gold at the Commonwealth Games, where he threw 89.75m to defeat India’s Neeraj Chopra.
Tharanga has also won the Diamond League title this season and established himself among the world’s leading javelin throwers.
