Schools told to step up dengue control before new term

The National Dengue Control Unit has instructed education authorities to carry out dengue-control programmes at all schools before the start of the new school term.
The NDCU warned that intermittent rainfall in south-western parts of the country could increase mosquito breeding.
The public has also been urged to clean homes and surrounding areas and eliminate potential mosquito breeding sites.
Sri Lanka has reported 95,174 dengue cases so far this year, while the number of dengue-related deaths has risen to 72.
The NDCU said 9,838 cases had been reported during the past 30 days of August.
