Sri Lanka have named three uncapped players, Sineth Jayawardena, Wanuja Sahan and Sohan de Livera, in their men’s T20 squad for the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.

Sahan Arachchige will captain the 15-member side, while Chamari Athapaththu will lead the women’s team.

Jayawardena earned his first national T20 call-up after strong performances in the Major Clubs limited-overs and T20 tournaments, including centuries against CCC and Panadura SC.

Leg-spinner Wanuja Sahan, who has also represented Sri Lanka A, has taken 14 wickets in the limited-overs tournament and five in the T20 competition.

Moors SC wicketkeeper-batter Sohan de Livera has scored 307 runs in seven matches in the ongoing Major Club T20 tournament, including three half-centuries.

Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan and Bangladesh will enter the men’s competition directly at the quarter-final stage. Sri Lanka will play their quarter-final on 29 September.

The women’s team will face Malaysia in their quarter-final on 17 September.

Sri Lanka’s women won silver at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou, while the men were eliminated by Afghanistan in the semi-finals.
