Colombo DC issues enjoining order on Ranil and the UNP
September 16, 2021

The Colombo District Court yesterday issued an enjoining order preventing UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe and party officials from nominating others to fill the vacancies created by the dismissal of 21 UNP local government members, representing several local government bodies.
The enjoining order was issued by Colombo District Judge Aruna Aluthge and this will be effective until September 29.
These lawsuits had been filed by 21 local government representatives who contested the 2018 Local Government Election under UNP.
Counsel for the plaintiffs told the court that the UNP had expelled their clients from the party, accusing them of supporting the Samagi Jana Balawewa during the last General Election.
UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe and UNP General Secretary Palitha Range Bandarasecretary of the party's disciplinary committee, Saminda Jayasekara were named as the defendants in these cases.
The plaintiffs alleged that the defendants failed to conduct a fair disciplinary inquiry against them and always acted contrary to the natural justice.
