14-foot crocodile captured by villagers near Kalu Ganga

Residents in the Devamulla, Naragala and Pahala Naragala areas captured a large crocodile on the night of 28 October after it was found roaming near the Kalu Ganga.
The crocodile, estimated to be about 14 feet long, was spotted on the road at around 11 p.m. near Wedagewatta Junction in Pahala Naragala. Villagers captured the animal and tied it up in a nearby field before informing the police.
Residents said several crocodiles had been seen in the Kalu Ganga in the area and claimed that pets kept at nearby homes had been going missing.
They said muddy conditions in the river may have caused the crocodile to move onto the road.
Bulathsinhala Police contacted Wildlife Department officers and made arrangements to hand the animal over to them.
