The first-ever Buddhist monk to enter Parliament Venerable, Baddegama Samithathero, passed away in a Private Hospital in Matara this morning.
The venerable thero was 68 at the time of his passing away.
A member of the Central Committee of the LSSP Ven. Samitha was in active politics for a considerable period. The Ven. Thero passed away while he was receiving treatment for Covid Pneumonia. Hospital sources said.
