Police apprehended the Vice Chairman of the Mihintale Pradeshiya Sabha in connection with the sexual abuse of a teenage girl from Mount Lavinia.
Police said the politician was among the three suspects arrested over the online sex trafficking scandal operated in Mount Lavinia in June.
Police also arrested a monk and the mother of the victim in connection with the sex crime.
The main suspect in the case has reportedly sold the teenage girl through an online portal for a fee ranging from Rs 10,000 to 30,000.
Police said they are looking for twenty more people in connection with the matter. Police were planning to produce suspects before a Magistrate today.
