Nearly twenty senior officers of the Sri Lanka Police called on the Mahanayake of the AsgiriChapter today to draw the Mahanayake’sattention to the injustice caused to police officers through the investigations that took place on Easter Sunday of April 21st, 2019.
Senior Superintendent of Police Sisila Kumara Herath told reporters that the Police officers on duty are held accountable for incidents related to the terror attack. He blamed the Special Presidential Commission appointed by the previous regime as grossly unreasonable.
He said, ‘We are here to appeal to the Venerable Mahanayake Thero to avert any injustice caused to the police officers because this affects them in the long run,” he said.
He said, Muslim extremist groups, carried out the attack, the Catholics, fell victim to a series of explosions, and we, as Sinhala Buddhist Police officers, are at the receiving end. He also said that they don’t have any misgivings as far as the Archbishop of Colombo is concerned.
Senior DIG Deshabandu Tennakoon said the then Government or the Defence Ministry had not given any directions to police officers concerning intelligence reports received by them.
Police Officers have no connection to the attacks, but they are in the dock simply because they were on duty at the time, he told the Mahanayaka Thero.
These investigations will invariably affect the careers of the Police officers and requested the Mahanayake of the Asgiriya chapter to appraise the relevant authorities of their concerns.
