The Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court today concluded the magisterial inquiry against former Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando and former IGP Pujith Jayasundara in connection with the case pertaining to criminal negligence and failure to prevent Easter Sunday Terrorist attacks.
The Court decided to terminate magisterial inquiry since indictments against the two former high ranking public officials have been filed in the Colombo High Court by the Attorney General.
The High Court Trial-at-Bar had already served indictments consisting of 855 charges on former Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando and former IGP Pujith Jayasundara.
The trial is to proceed without a jury commencing from November 29. They are currently out on bail.
The two former top officials have been accused of failing to take measures to prevent the Easter Sunday attacks despite having prior knowledge of the attack.
