The Indian media reported that China is expected to hand over its letter supporting debt restructuring in Sri Lanka to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Sunday.

On Monday, India became the first country to hand over its letter of support for financing and debt restructuring in Sri Lanka to the International Monetary Fund as a sign of its continued support for the island nation’s economic recovery. In 2022, India provided $4.5 billion in assistance to Colombia to tide over its dire economic situation.

While China is expected to hand over its letter of support to IMF on Sunday, New Delhi handed over its support letter to IMF on January 16, four days before External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar landed in Colombo to meet Sri Lanka’s political leadership on January 20.

Filing a B report against the lawyers before Colombo Chief Magistrate: IGP call for report from SDIG Deshabandu

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) has called for a report from the Senior DIG in charge of the Western Province about the actions of Keselwatta Police in filing a B report before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court against a group of lawyers.

The Keselwatta Police filed a B report against a group of lawyers who organized a protest on January 18, condemning the Attorney General’s alleged interference with the judiciary.

According to the B report, Keselwatta police alleged that a group of lawyers, including Senior Counsel Gunaratne Wanninayake, Nuwan Bopage, and Senaka Perera, had organized a protest by violating election laws and the provisions of the National Thoroughfares Act.

The IGP has called for a report from Senior DIG Deshabandu Tennakoon for filing the B report without the knowledge of the IGP, CD Wickramaratne, or the Legal Division of the Police Headquarters.
