The Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court today permitted the Keselwatta Police to withdraw its earlier B report filed against a group of lawyers who organized a protest on January 18, condemning the Attorney General’s alleged interference with the judiciary.

In an application before Colombo Chief Magistrate Prasanna Alwis, the OIC of Keselwatta Police Station made a request to withdraw the B report they filed against a group of lawyers, including Senior Counsel Gunaratne Wanninayake, Nuwan Bopage, and Senaka Perera, for alleged violations of laws and regulations.

However, the lawyers yesterday staged a protest in Hulftsdorp and warned that they would launch a fast-unto-death campaign if the police failed to withdraw the purported B report by today itself.

According to the B report, Keselwatta police alleged that a group of lawyers had organized a protest by violating election laws and the provisions of the National Throne Speech Act.

The lawyers had organized this protest condemning the Attorney General’s alleged attempts to prevent Colombo Additional Magistrate Tharanga Mahawatte from hearing the case filed against Convener of the Inter-University Students’ Federation (IUSF) Wasantha Mudalige and Ven. Galwewa Siridhamma Thera.
