The Colombo District Court today issued an enjoining order against the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), its former President Maithripala Sirisena, and its General Secretary Dayasiri Jayasekara, preventing anyone else from being appointed as the SLFP representatives to the Ja-Ela Pradeshiya, replacing the three plaintiffs.

Colombo Chief District Judge Poornima Paranagamage issued this order after taking into consideration the facts presented by the plaintiffs that they had been removed from party membership in an arbitrary manner. This enjoining order will be effective until March 9.

Three plaintiffs Chamika Harshani Silva, Hasith Chamara Paranavitharana, and Suwanthi Perera had filed separate complaints alleging that the party had taken a decision to remove them from their positions as Pradeshiya Sabha members in an unjust manner without taking disciplinary action. The plaintiffs alleged that the party is preparing to appoint other persons to these positions, causing irreparable damages to the plaintiffs.
