The committee appointed to look into the alleged kidney racket has recommended the temporary suspension of organ transplant surgeries at the Western Infirmary Hospital until the conclusion of the investigations.
Additional Solicitor General Vikum de Abrew, appearing for the Attorney General, made these submissions when the writ petition filed by the Chairman of Western Infirmary Hospital Prof. Rezvi Sheriff came up before the Court of Appeal.
The Committee has recommended that the Director General of Health Services temporarily suspend the organ transplantation surgeries at the hospital until the conclusion of the investigation into the alleged kidney racket, the Additional Solicitor General said.
Meanwhile, Faizer Musthapha PC, appearing for the petitioner, said that the daily affairs of the hospital have been severely affected due to the arbitrary decision of the Director General of Health Services.
Founder and Chairman of Western Infirmary Hospital, Prof. Rezvi Sheriff, and Western Infirmary Hospital filed this petition seeking an order in the nature of a writ of mandamus compelling the Director General of Health Services to permit the performance of the surgeries already approved at the hospital.
