Stand-up comedian Nathasha Edirisooriya and social media activist Bruno Divakara were today ordered to be further remanded until June 21 by Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court.
Comedian Nathasha Edirisooriya was arrested for allegedly making comments on Buddhism that were detrimental to the country’s religious harmony. Bruno Divakara was arrested for allegedly aiding and abetting the publication of the controversial remarks made by Nathasha Edirisooriya on his ‘SL Vlog’ YouTube channel.
The CID raised objections to release the two suspects on bail on the basis that they had yet to conclude investigations.
Meanwhile, Magistrate Thilina Gamage ordered the police to conduct an investigation into an incident where social activists Vidarshana Kannangara, Brito Fernando, and journalists Tharindu Jayawardena and Tharindu Uduwegedara made statements in a manner that influenced the ongoing court proceedings. The Magistrate made this order following a request made by an aggrieved party alleging that these individuals have organised a press conference demanding the release of Natasha Edirisooriya.
