The case filed against former IGP Pujith Jayasundara for allegedly committing the offence of criminal intimidation against the elevator operator at the Police Headquarters in 2017 has been fixed for further trial by the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court.
When the matter came up before Colombo Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage, two witnesses, including a receptionist at police headquarters, gave evidence. The witnesses admitted the fact that the former IGP Jayasundara had given instructions not to operate the elevator when the national anthem is sung and meditation programmes are being held.
A further magisterial inquiry is fixed for August 23.
The lift number one operator at the Police Headquarters lodged a complaint on June 2, 2019 with the then Acting IGP, alleging that then IGP Pujith Jayasundera, on April 11, 2017, abused him in foul language, grabbed him by the collar, and attempted to assault him in the elevator.
