Mullaitivu Magistrate T. Swarnaraja sought a detailed report from police as to why police and archaeological officers sent back a group of Tamil residents who had gone to attend the Pongal Festival at the Hindu Kovil located in the vicinity of the Kurundumale Temple in Mullaitivu.
This incident took place when a group of Hindu devotees went to this Kovil on July 14.
The Magistrate made this order when a case filed by a group of politicians citing that the police and archaeological officers had violated their rights was taken up for consideration before the court yesterday.
The magistrate ordered that the report be submitted to the court on August 8, when this case will be taken up for hearing again.
