The Wildlife Conservation Department yesterday decided to seek the assistance of foreign veterinary experts to treat the tusker Agbo, which was badly injured by a trap gun about three months ago.
Officials have started treating the animal since July 20, but the tusker is currently lying in a fragile state and needs urgent treatment to heal the internal and external wounds completely.
Sources said that a veterinary expert specialising in treating wounds will be brought to the country soon to attend to Agbo, who is currently lying in the Labunoruwa Lake Reserve in Tirappane.
Agbo is one of the few remaining giant tuskers in Sri Lanka. He is nearly 40 years old and about 10 feet tall in the wild.
