Justice, Prison Affairs, and Constitutional Reforms Minister Dr. Wijayadasa Rajapakshe says investigations for the recovery of illegal assets deposited in foreign countries through fraudulent means will be initiated within the next few days.
He said that the Anti-Corruption Bill, which comes into force on September 15, has provisions to deal with such individuals.
The Commission to Investigate the Allegations of Bribery or Corruption has been empowered to initiate an investigation into such incidents under the new Act, he said.
The Minister made these remarks during a meeting with South Asian Regional Representative of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Marco Teixeira in Colombo today.
The UNDOC has agreed to provide support to recover the money of people who have fraudulently earned assets and deposited them in foreign countries. Minister Rajapakshe said that this operation will commence within the next few days.
