The Geological Survey and Mines Bureau (GSMB) today said that an earthquake of magnitude 4.65 on the Richter scale was recorded in the high seas 320 kilometres away from the north-east of Batticaloa early this morning.
GMSB Director General M.M.J.P. Ajith said that even though all the gauges set up by the Bureau have recorded this earthquake, there is no report that the public has felt it.
However. He said there is no danger of a tsunami due to this earthquake.
