SJB parliamentarian Ajith Mannapperuma was suspended from parliament for four weeks today after he attempted to remove the mace from its designated place.
A tense situation erupted in parliament this morning, forcing the Speaker to adjourn the parliamentary proceedings for 10 minutes.
After resuming the parliamentary proceedings, the Speaker announced that MP Mannapperuma had committed an offence by touching the Mace as per Standing Order 77(03) and ordered him to be suspended from parliament for four weeks.
