Former Editor of the Daily News and Diplomat Bandula Jayasekara has passed away early, this morning at the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital.
Mr Jayasekara had been suffering from terminal illness for nearly two years and was at the Karapitiya palliative care centre during his last days.
Jayasekara who started his career as a journalist in the Daily Mirror later became the Editor of the Daily News. During his career spanning nearly forty years, he too held several diplomatic positions as the Consul General in Toronto, Canada and later as Deputy Permanent Representative at the United Nations in New York and then moved to Australia as the Consul General in Sydney
He was also working as a consultant for Sirasa News First. And served as Director-General, President’s Office Media Unit briefly during President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s tenure and Director General (Public Communication) at the External Affairs Ministry.
