Archbishop of Colombo, Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith, accused the government of making an attempt to mislead the Pope and the international community on the Easter Sunday terror attack investigations.
The Archbishop while denouncing the government’s moves, said that the Prime Minister and the Foreign Minister would visit Bologna and then the Vatican City to brief the Holy See on the progress they made on the Eater Sunday attack investigations.
The Archbishop further said that the Sri Lankan Catholic Church had already briefed the Holy See about the situation.
His Eminence said the Vatican will soon refer the matter to the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva.
The Archbishop referred to media reports that Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and Minister of Foreign Affairs Professor G. L. Peiris will brief Pope Francis on the progress made on the investigations about Easter Sunday attacks during their visit to the Vatican City.
Cabinet spokesman, Plantation Minister Dr Ramesh Pathirana said the Premier and Foreign Minister would brief the Pontiff on the bomb explosions in several Catholic churches and tourist hotels in Colombo.
