Archbishop Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith said on Sunday that the proposal to set up a land bridge between India and Sri Lanka should have the approval of the people at a national referendum.

During his homily at the healing service held in the Tewatte Shrine, the Archbishop blamed the politicians of the past for betraying the country.

He recalled the Indian “Parippu” drop with dismay and said that the ancient kings confined the relations between India and Sri Lanka only to trade and commerce.
