Former Governor of the Western Province Azath Sally, now in detention under the Criminal Investigation Department, was admitted to the Colombo National Hospital.
Mr Sally has suffered a heart attack which prompted the authorities to transfer him to a health care facility.
Mr Sally is in custody over several utterances he allegedly made and to find out whether he had any connections to the 2019 Easter Bomb attacks.
