BASL, CCC and YMBA handover a set of proposals to Mahanayake Theros to restore political stability.
A thirteen point proposal to restore political and economic stability in the country was today handed over to the Most Ven. Thibbotuwawe Sri Sumangala Mahanayake Thero of the Malwatte Chapter and the Most Ven. Warakagoda Sri Gnanarathana Mahanayake Thero of the Asgiriya Chapter by the representatives of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL), the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (CCC) and the YMBA.
The proposals included the repeal of the 20th Amendment to the Constitution and the abolition of the executive Presidency, the setting up of a government of national unity with a Prime Minister who can create a consensus among the political parties.
A15 member cabinet of ministers, a 15 member advisory council, and a Common Minimum Programme are among the 13 point proposals, the BASL statement said.
BASL Secretary Isuru Balapatabendi said the objective of the proposals is to create a stable Government with the ability to implement reforms
domestically and the ability to negotiate with the IMF, other multilateral agencies and friendly countries to help Sri Lanka get out of the economic crisis by creating political, economic and social stability.
BASL President Saliya Pieris PC, Chairman of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce Vish Govindasamy, BASL Deputy President Anura Meddegoda PC, BASL, CCC Vice Chairman Duminda Hulangamuwa, CCC former Chairman Suresh Shah, BASL Secretary Isuru Balapatabendi, BASL Treasurer Rajindh Perera Treasurer, Prasantha Abeykoon and Danuka Samarasinghe representing the Board of Management of the Colombo YMBA were present.
