In a statement regarding the resignation of the Mullaitivu Magistrate, T. Saravanarajah, the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) has vehemently condemned any type of threat or violence to members of the judiciary.

The BASL warned that the resignation of the Mullaitivu Magistrate may raise serious questions about the safety of judicial officers in Sri Lanka.
Therefore, the BASL urges the government to initiate a thorough, impartial investigation into the incident.
Mullaitivu Magistrate, T. Saravanarajah, had tendered his resignation to the Secretary of the Judicial Service Commission, citing that his decision to step down was purportedly prompted by threats.

The BASL maintained that it is committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring the safety and well-being of all
members of the judiciary.

“We strongly believe in maintaining an environment where judges can discharge their duties without fear or intimidation”, the BASL statement added.

The media statement in this regard was issued by BASL President Kaushalya Nawaratne and its Secretary, Isuru Balapatabendi.
