Bribery case against SLPP Member of Parliament fixed for trial
March 29, 2022

The bribery case filed against two accused including SLPP Gampaha district Parliamentarian Milan Jayatilleka was today fixed for trial by the Colombo High Court.
The Commission to Investigate Allegations against Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) had filed an indictment against Parliamentarian Milan Jayatillake and Ajith Sisira Kumara for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs. 600,000 from a businessman as a gratification to issue a permit for a quarry while they were serving as the Chairman of Dompe Pradeshiya Sabha and a member of PS respectively in 2012.
High Court Judge Nawaratne Marasinghe fixed the case to be taken up for trial on June 9.
On a previous occasion, the Colombo High Court had ordered to release two accused from the Bribery case following the Bribery Commission's decision to withdraw the indictment owing to a technical issue. A fresh indictment had been filed thereafter with the written sanction of the Bribery Commission.
Subsequently, the Bribery Commission filed a fresh indictment against two accused instead of the indictment withdrawn previously.
