The Organized Crimes Prevention Division conducting investigations against former Jaffna District Parliamentarian Vijayakala Maheshwaran over a controversial statement she made in 2018 informed the court that extracts of the investigations into the incident have been referred to the Attorney General for his advice. Police further submitted to the court that they were yet to receive Attorney General’s advice regarding this incident. Police had filed a B report against Vijayakala Maheshwaran before Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court for allegedly exciting or attempting to excite disaffection through a statement in Jaffna. Colombo Additional Magistrate Harshana Kekunawala issued an order directing the Attorney General to expedite his advice regarding the matter. Addressing an event held at the Weerasingham Hall in Jaffna on July 2, 2018, a former Parliamentarian had allegedly said she would like to see the resurgence of the LTTE. Filing a B report regarding this incident, the Organized Crimes Prevention Division alleged that Mrs Maheshwaran could be charged under the offences that appear to have been committed under Sections 115 and 120 of the Penal Code.
