The Chief Justice nominates a Trial-at-Bar for the murder trial of former MP Amarakerthi Atukorala

The Chief Justice has nominated a three-member Trial-at-Bar to inquire into the murder of former Polonnaruwa District SLPP Parliamentarian Amarakeerthi Athukorala.
Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya has appointed a three-member Trial-at-Bar to be heard at Gampaha High Court, on the request made by Attorney General Sanjay Rajaratnam PC.
Former Polonnaruwa District Parliamentarian Amarakeerthi Athukorala and his security officer, Police Sergeant Jayantha Gunawardena, were killed in Nittambuwa town on May 9 last year following the incidents that took place after the attack on Galle Face protesters.
The Attorney General is expecting to proceed with criminal charges against 42 accused in connection with this incident.
