An officer of the Civil Defence Force attached to the Mapakada Wildlife Office has been arrested by the police after injuring an elephant paraded on the Mahaiyangana Raja Maha Vihara annual procession.
The elephant is from Maharagama, and it was shot while strolling around the banks of the Mahaweli River.
