Former Sri Lanka national cricketer Sachithra Senanayake, arrested over allegations of match-fixing, was today ordered to be further remanded until September 25 by the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court.
Sachithra Senanayake was arrested and produced in court by the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of the Sports Ministry over allegations relating to match-fixing in the Lanka Premier League in 2020.
The Attorney General raised objections to releasing the suspect on bail, citing that the suspect could interfere with the witnesses once he was released on bail.
Colombo Chief Magistrate Prasanna Alwis rejected the bail application submitted on behalf of Sachithra Senanayake on the grounds that ongoing investigations would be hampered if he was enlarged on bail.
President’s Counsel Kalinga Indatissa appeared for Sachithra Senanayake.
