Colombo University students have refused to receive their degree awards from the Chancellor of the University Ven.Muruththettuwe Ananada Thero of the Abhayaramaya Narahenpita.
The Students union of the Colombo University has written to the Vice-Chancellor expressing their reluctance to receive degree certificates from Ananda Thero, stating that the appointment was political.
Students paraded to the hall sporting black bands in protest against the appointment of Ven Ananda Thero as the Chancellor of the University. The academic staff also was not in agreement with the new nomination of the Ven. Thero to hold the highest position of the University.
Students called upon the university authorities to say they would receive their degree certificates from the Vice-Chancellor or the departmental heads as the case may be.
