The Colombo High Court today ordered to deprive former Deputy Minister Myown Musthapha’s civic rights for seven years for committing an offence of corrupt practice during the 2010 Presidential Election.
The Attorney General had filed indictments against former Deputy Minister Myown Musthapha for offering Rs. 4.2 million to National Freedom Front member Mohamed Muzammil as a means of inducing him to support then opposition candidate General Sarath Fonseka during the 2010 Presidential Election.
Colombo High Court Judge Aditya Patabendi further imposed a six-month sentence of simple imprisonment with a fine of Rs. 500 for committing the offence of undue influence or bribery punishable under Section 80 (1) (b) of the Presidential Election Act No. 15 of 1981.
