Colombo Magistrate prevents ship captain from leaving the country

The Colombo magistrate's Court has issued an order preventing the Captain of the ill-fated ship Mv X-press Pearl from leaving the country.

The Magistrate has also prevented the Chief Engineer and the deputy Chief engineer from leaving the country.

A fire erupted onboard the Mv X-Press Pearl nearly twelve days ago causing a massive environmental disaster to the west coast north of Colombo. It later spread to the Southern coastal belt harming marine life. The vessel was anchored nine nautical miles off the Colombo harbour. The Sri Lanka Navy and the Indian Coast Guard doused the fire.
