Retired Major, and Attorney, Ajith Prasanna who is the convener of the Mawbima Wenuwen Ranawiruwo Organisation was today (19) released on bail by Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court  after serving nearly one year period in remand prison for allegedly intimidating witnesses in an ongoing case.

The Court of Appeal had granted bail for the suspect on Wednesday the 13th following his undertaking that he would refrain from making comments to media over judicial matters.

Accordingly, Ajith Prasanna was ordered to be released on two sureties of Rs.500,000 each by Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court.

He was remanded by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court on January 25, 2020 over an allegation that he had allegedly intimidated witnesses in a case before the Magistrate’s Court during media conferences allegedly organised by him.

The prosecution alleged that the suspect had committed punishable offences stipulated under Section 10(1)(a) of Assistance to and Protection of Victims of Crimes Act No. 04 of 2015.

Meanwhile, the Court was informed that the Attorney General is expecting to file indictments against Ajith Prasanna in the Colombo High Court.

The suspect had organised two media conferences in December 2019 criticising the conduct of police officers who conducted investigations into disappearance of eleven youths in 2008 and 2009.
