An initial discussion was held with the National Operations Centre for the Prevention of COVID-19 and the health authorities on Monday on the need for a total lockdown.
However, he said the Government fells that a zonal or an area-wise lockdowns are sufficient for the moment to arrest the spread of the virus.
Rambukwella said the situation may change at any time in the future.
