The Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court today ordered to revoke the travel ban imposed on former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and three others in connection with the magisterial inquiry into the Galle Face attack.

The Court had earlier issued an order preventing former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, MP Namal Rajapaksa, and 15 others from leaving the country regarding the mob attack that took place at Temple Trees and Galle Face on May 9, 2022.

President’s Counsel Shavindra Fernando, appearing for the former Prime Minister, and three others moved court to revoke the travel ban imposed against former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, Parliamentarians Pavithra Wanniarachchi, Rohitha Abeygunawardena, and former Provincial Councilor Kanchana Jayaratne since they were not made suspects in the case.

Accordingly, Colombo Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage ordered the court registrar to immediately convey this order to the Controller General of Immigration and Emigration. The impounded passports were ordered to be released to the four politicians.
