Ranil envisages the 21st amendment and the National Advisory Council
SLFP General Secretary Dayasiri Jayasekara, Ranjith Siyambalpitiya and a few others met with Prime minister Ranil Wickremasinghe this morning and pledged their support for all the progressive steps of the government while being in the opposition.
Jayasekara has said not to cause a split in the party and has emphasised such governments will not last long.
He has told the Prime minister that the power to make crucial decisions is vested with President Maithripala Sirisena, the party President.
Meanwhile, the SJB has also decided to support the progressive decisions of the Wickremesinghe government.
Former Minister Udaya Gammanpila has also met with the Prime Minister representing the ten parties sitting as independent members in Parliament and pledged conditional support for the government from the opposition.
During the discussion, Wickrkemsinghe said the government would appoint a national advisory council comprising leaders of all political parties and, in principle, agreed to introduce the 21st amendment to the Constitution at the earliest possibility. The Prime Minister has said all parties not represented in the Cabinet can be part of the fifteen committees appointed to oversee the Ministries and their operations.
