Dayasiri obtains an enjoining order against SLFP Chairman Maithripala Sirisena

The Colombo District Court today issued an enjoining order preventing the operation of an explanation letter sent by Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) Chairman Maithripala Sirisena to SLFP former General Secretary Dayasiri Jayasekara.
Colombo District Court Judge Sandun Vithana made this order taking into consideration a complaint filed by Dayasiri Jayasekara, who was recently ousted from his role as the General Secretary of the SLFP. This enjoining order will be effective until October 5.
Parliamentarian Dayasiri Jayasekara, through his lawyer, had challenged the legitimacy of the letter dated September 18, 2023, issued by SLFP Chairman and former President Maithripala Sirisena, calling for explanations prior to taking disciplinary action against him on several allegations. He contended that the party chairman is not vested with any power by the party constitution to issue such a letter in an arbitrary manner.
