The majestic tusker Nadungamuwe Raja who carried the sacred tooth relic of the Kandy Sri Dalada Maligawa during the Easla pageant passed away during the early hours of this morning. The animal was 69 years at the time of its death.
President Gotabaya Rajapaksa who declared Nadungamuwe Raja as a national treasure directed the relevant authorities to preserve its body for the benefit of future generations.
