The Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court today issued a summons for Western Province Senior DIG Deshbandu Tennakoon to appear before court on February 16 over a criminal accusation that he had allegedly aided and abetted a criminal breach of trust with regard to Rs. 17.8 million recovered by protesters inside the President’s House on July 9th.
Colombo Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage decided to name Senior DIG as an accused in a private complaint filed by activist Mahinda Jayasinghe as per the provisions of Section 136(1) (a) of the Code of Criminal Procedure Act.
The petitioner alleged that Senior DIG Tennakoon used undue influence to hand over the money found inside the President’s House to the Minister of Public Security without keeping it under court custody.
The petitioner alleged that Deshabandu Tennakoon had requested the Fort Police OIC to hand over the sum of Rs. 17.85 million recovered from the President’s House to the Minister of Public Security by committing punishable offenses under Sections 100, 109, and 389 of the Penal Code.
