President’s Counsel Sanjeewa Jayawardena appearing for Director-General of Legal Affairs of the Presidential Secretariat, Senior attorney Harigupta Rohanadeera informed Court that recommendations of this commission will not be implemented at this juncture, since the President has appointed yet another Special Presidential Commission to implement the recommendations and decisions made by the Presidential Commission that probed incidents of political victimization under the previous Government.

Sanjeewa Jayawardena made these remarks when the writ petitions filed by Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) leader Anura Kumara Dissanayaka and several others were taken up for support.

The petitioners are seeking an order staying the operation of the recommendations of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry appointed to probe incidents of political victimization.

The Court of Appeal three-judge-bench headed by Arjuna Obeysekera issued notices on the respondents’ returnable on May 12.

In his petition, Anura Kumara Dissanayaka had cited the commissioners of Presidential Commission retired Supreme Court Judge Upali Abeyratne, retired Court of Appeal Judge Chandrasiri Jayatilake and former IGP Chandra Fernando, Commission Secretary Pearl Weerasinghe, Cabinet of Ministers and the Attorney General as respondents.
