Former President Maithripala Sirisena refuted that he had prior information of the Eater Sunday attack.
Addressing Parliament on Friday, he said there was no evidence before the Commission to that effect.
If he had prior knowledge, he would have immediately informed His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith and taken all necessary precautions by imposing a curfew in Colombo.
SJB’s Harin Fernando however, discounted his claim and said he could not stop but laugh. In a scathing attack on the government, Fernando said that the former President had been allocated sixty minutes while the duration given to other Parliamentarians reduced to just ten minutes. Has the government allocated sixty minutes for the former President to enable him to whitewash himself, Fernando queried?
Fernando brought a copy of the Holy Bible to the floor of the House and said he would talk the truth upon the Bible.
Talking about the masterminds of the attack, he pinpointed that the masterminds are cajoled by this government.
JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake speaking on the matter said many unanswered questions worry the Catholic community including His Eminence the Cardinal.
A superficial scan of the report gives the impression that it was an act of terror by the radical Islamist but a far deeper study would show that there were all the ingredients of a sinister political plot behind this blatant carnage.
He also mentioned a telephone call by the alleged assassin who was at the Taj Hotel and decided to leave the place without triggering the bomb. He later went to a lodge in Dehiwala and was met by somebody before exploding the suicide bomb.
Dissanayake said all his details were detected within a short period and his kith and kin were traced immediately, all these incidents have an element of suspicion that should be probed.
