Microfinancing was meant to be a boon to low-income earners and open up business opportunities for them. But difficulty in marketing their products, cultural attitudes etc. have resulted in drawing them deeper into debt.
Finance and Media Minister Mangala Samaraweera announced that the next development program will be showcased in Moneragala later this month. The government’s aim is to promote social cohesion and reconciliation along with economic expansion.
