He drew attention to the litigant’s time, fiscal, and emotional costs. He explained that a young girl who gets sexually abused and receives judgement when she is grown up, married, and having children is subject to an unimaginable emotional cost.

Wickremaratne said that there were 1.1 million pending cases in 2021, as opposed to 763,000 pending cases in 2019, an increase of 43.6%.

The MP requested that the Justice Minister consider setting up Courts of Appeal in the provinces to hear civil appeals and Fundamental Rights cases. If we really want to make changes in justice delays, we need to pursue solutions with an inventive approach, he said.
