Defence stance to be informed after perusing charges
The Colombo High Court Trial-at-Bar today served indictments consisting of 855 charges on former Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando and former IGP Pujith Jayasundara in connection with their criminal negligence and failure to prevent Easter Sunday Terrorist attacks.
Two former high ranking public officials appeared before the Trial-at-Bar bench comprising High Court Judges Namal Balalle, Adithya Patabendi and Mohomed Irshadeen. They are currently out on bail.
Deputy Solicitor General Dileepa Pierisappearing for the Attorney General informed the court that the charges against the accused were re-examined by the Attorney General.
The Attorney General filed indictments consisting of 855 charges against two accused. The trial is to proceed without a jury commencing from November 29.
Defence Counsel who appeared on behalf of the accused informed the court that defence’s stance will be informed to the Court after perusing charges levelled against their clients.
The two former top officials have been accused of failing to take measures to prevent the Easter Sunday attacks despite having prior knowledge of the attack.
