Five fishermen were today sentenced to death by the Colombo High Court after being found guilty of possessing and trafficking 152 kilogrammes of heroin in the high seas off the Galle harbour in 2019.
High Court Judge Namal Balalle observed that the prosecution has proved the case beyond reasonable doubt.
The Attorney General had filed indictments comprising three charges against five accused, Chaminda Rohana, Anton Krishantha, Dulaj Ravindra Perera, L. Suranga, and Tharindu Jayamal Fernando, under the Poisons, Opium, and Dangerous Drugs Act.
