At least four people killed and over 40,000 others affected by days of strong winds and heavy rains which lashed the country due to the development of a super cyclonic condition in the Bay of Bengal. Disaster Management Center (DMC) said in its latest weather report Saturday.
According to the DMC, the deaths had been due to severe rains and flooding.
Over 200 houses had been fully or partially destroyed.
Meanwhile, 75 people belonging to 42 affected families have been given temporary shelters.
The National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) issued a landslide warning for several districts including Colombo and the South. The NBRO requested people living in high-risk areas to move to safer grounds.
The Security forces have dispatched rescue teams in several districts affected and rescued several people trapped in the rising flood waters.
